Course Overview / Introduction The Operate Scissor Lift (MEWP) course equips participants with the skills to safely operate scissor lifts, covering equipment selection, risk assessment, hazard identification, and safe reinstatement in line with safety regulations.
Course Content This course includes:

Introduction to Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs)
Principles of risk management in MEWP operations
Legislative and safety requirements for MEWP use
Overview and functions of scissor lifts
Pre-start inspection procedures
Safe operating practices
Emergency response procedures
Safe shutdown and reinstatement of MEWP operations
Course Objective The Operate Scissor Lift (MEWP) course enables participants to:

- Select the appropriate MEWP and conduct task-specific risk assessments.
- Understand safety requirements under the Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Act and relevant Codes of Practice.
- Perform pre-start inspections and workplace assessments.
- Recognise factors affecting MEWP stability.
- Identify common hazards during travel, setup, operation, and parking, and apply effective control measures.
- Understand the functions of MEWP controls, including emergency controls and procedures.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with risk assessments and manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Operate scissor lifts safely and in compliance with safety standards.
Target Participants The Operate Scissor Lift course is intended for both new and experienced personnel who are required to operate scissor lifts in the workplace.
Entry Requirements Learners are expected to:
- Possess basic knowledge of the relevant work sector.
- Demonstrate English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing at Employability Skills (ES) Level 3 or equivalent.
- Be able to work with numbers at a proficiency level equivalent to ES Level 3.
- Be medically fit to work at height.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
Certification - Participants who met assessment requirements will receive a Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by an accredidated approved training provider.
